About Canan SAĞAR

Born in Istanbul in 1980, Canan SAĞAR has been living in London since her childhood.

SAĞAR began her musical journey during her childhood years, and before long, music transformed into her primary medium of self-expression. She has woven her sorrows, emotions, thoughts, and everything she finds meaningful in life into the musical works she creates, presenting them to the world and thus—in her own words—creating something uniquely her own.

SAĞAR’s journey of self-expression has not been limited to music alone; she has also shared her perspectives with society through writings published on her personal blog, in various magazines, and across other platforms.

In a journey where she has kept her actions and words in harmony, SAĞAR released her debut album, 13, in 2015, dedicating it to child brides. Following this, Canan SAĞAR released further singles and reconnected with her listeners in 2017 with the album Kalbim (My Heart). Immediately thereafter, in 2018, she released the album On Kadın (Ten Women), which featured the collective contributions of ten esteemed female vocalists, through which she sought to address women's issues via music. Following these works, Canan SAĞAR gifted a new anthem to the working class with her single Yurdumun Emekçileri (Labourers of My Homeland).

After this single, she released the song Bir Kuş Olsam (If I Were a Bird), for which she wrote the lyrics, as a duet with Alp Murat Alper.

In 2020, she released the song Ey İnsanlar Nereye (Oh Humanity, Where Are You Heading?), for which she wrote both the lyrics and the music.

In 2021, she released the single İkimiz de Yandık (We Both Burned), the album Sen Bana Dokundun (You Touched Me), and the song Kelebek (The Butterfly).

SAĞAR, whose work on new albums continues, greets us not only through her identity as a musician and a writer, but also accompanies her students on their musical journeys as a music teacher.
